Vadim is returning for his second year as Director of Day Camps.
Vadim
immigrated with his parents from Kyrgyzstan, a former Soviet republic
in Central Asia, as a 15-year-old in 1994. His family resides in Vancouver, Wash.
His father had been a pro soccer player and he had been in the U-15 national
squad.
In Vancouver WA, he played first for Fort Vancouver HS and then, with
the encouragement of his high school helping overcome the language barrier,
he took the college entrance exams and with a scholarship offer entered
Seattle Pacific University.
He was a four-year letterman and starter at Seattle Pacific and was named to
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) All-Region First
Team and All-Pacific West Conference as a sophomore, junior and senior.
In 1995 he was the teams second highest scorer with 9 goals and helped take
the Falcons to 4 consecutive NCAA Div 2 playoffs including a semi-final in
1998 and 3 Pacific West Conference titles. In each of his 3 last seasons he
was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) all-region
1st team.
The
expansion Portland Timbers passed in the Territorial Round, making their
selection the first overall pick in the First Round. With the first overall
pick, the Timbers took Seattle Pacific Univ. forward Vadim Tolstolutsky."Vadim
is an outstanding reader of the game," said Timbers Head Coach Bobby
Howe. "He has excellent soccer intelligence. He has the potential
of developing into a first-class player for the Portland Timbers. We're
excited to have him."
